Sorry for inconvenience,
please repeat again troubleshooting instructions, but instead of removing the string
"<string>rohos:test</string>"you should type the string
"<string>loginwindow:login</string>"We already updated troubleshooting instructions.
This bug appears unexpectedly on some Mac, and for now we could not
fix it as it is not reproducible on our Macs.It would be great if you could help us. I could send you a new build.

Hi Alex,
i was about the re-install the osx when i saw your massage. i did what you wrote and i can login now, BUT i cant modified anything that required authentication (like accounts..).
i lost almost everything in my computer and spend hours of trying to understand what is wrong!
i saw that you changed now the instructions but ITS NOT OK that i had to go thru this hell.
thats a shame since i found this kind of application very useful for others.
do you have any idea why i cant authenticate thing? i have tried to fix permissions and disk but nothing is working.
also i noticed that strings with "rohos" is in others key groups in the "sudo pico" file...
Please try to help sins i dont want to reinstall my osx.

There is an RohosUninstall app in the ZIP file that you have download from our web. Use it to completely remove rohos.
Can you tell me your Mac configuration? Is it x86 or x64 installation of SL ?
Alex.

Samuel,
Could you please open console and take a look on a log entries where "rohos" is mentioned. ?
There should be the reason of failure. You try to open System Preferences and unlock any preference. then take a look of fresh log entries.
Thanks.

I had a problem with this too, after uninstalling Rohos for Mac. I couldn't run any Installer app, because the installer couldn't raise the Authentication dialog. It turns out that in /etc/authorization there is <b>another</b> rohos configuration directive apart from "<string>rohos:test</string>".
It's in the <key>authenticate</key> group.
Where it says "rohos:authenticate" return it to "builtin:authenticate".
Perhaps someone from Rohos can provide a more accurate removal instruction for it. :-)Posted 7 months ago # -
Would be great to adjust the removal instruction, as it drove me crazy in the beginning, as the version was not working for me and when I made just the one change I had the problem too that I could not install any apps. Thanks neilmac for the info. It helped me.

This happened to me as well after installing the trial version (unfortunately, after purchasing a Yubikey, I learned about Rohos via Yubico's website and thought I would give the trial SW a try). If anybody who owns a Mac is reading this I recommend you ***DO NOT*** install this software unless you want a heart attack and to be unable to boot your machine. And unless you are a techie, you will be unable to follow the instructions to recover your Mac. Thankfully I found neilmac's entry in this forum and it lead me to the hunt to the instructions to recover my Mac.
This SW is clearly still Alpha with such a showstopper issue and was not thoroughly tested. I was fuming but luckily I was able to recover thanks to the information here. Though it was highly inconvenient. What's more, the uninstall SW in the zip file doesn't completely remove the Application. I ran it several times and it says "deleted" in the UI but the Application remains in the Applications folder - so I had to remove it manually. Who knows if I've rid my computer totally of this POS SW. I am so happy I did not actually pay for this POS. How about Rohos reimbursing me for wasted time and stress? >:-(
PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL THIS WITHOUT READING AND UNDERSTANDING THE POTENTIAL ISSUE ABOVE AND HOW TO RECOVER.

Hello,
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Yes, we are aware that some Mac users experience this problem and we are here to help.
We are sorry to hear about the hard time you had with our SW and we understand this was a stressful time for you and we are always eager to resolve our users' issues as quickly as possible.
Sorry for inconveniences created.
It works on our Macs and many users like it too. Obviously/Unfortunately there is a Mac OS X configuration where Rohos doesn't work. This is related to x64 mode. Our experiments by enabling\disabling x64 mode in Mac OS X don't reproduce this error.
We published removal instructions for Rohos on the program page in case of any error - step-by-step guide.
Could you pls sent me screenshot of your System Profiler -> Software -> Extensions -> ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin. like here: http://i26.tinypic.com/25z5ufd.jpg
And also screenshot of System Profiler -> Hardware page. This would help us to identify the problem and fix it. email info@rohos.com
We also certainly recognize and respect the fact that you have right to post negative comments about our SW. Perhaps you may wish to give this situation a little more time before advising not to use our SW, and as mentioned, we are indeed eager to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
Sincerely,
Rohos Support

I've been using Rohos for a while now, but I do have to say that the last couple of releases have been difficult to deal with in terms of install issues. If I didn't have an external dive ready to boot from so I could go play in terminal I would have been severely upset over the install errors that are still happening months after the initial problem was noticed.
Today I downloaded and installed the April 22 release of the software, and again it hosed my system. I was able to boot from an external drive and get back and running it under 10 minutes, but then again I am a more advanced user who is comfortable playing in the terminal. I like your software - but it needs to work and these install issues do need to be addressed. I've already sent along the requested screenshots, so I hope we can get things resolved soon.
Looking forward to a return to stability in the near future!

I have Rohos login for my windows machines and it works perfectly. It works well on my iMac (running SnowLeopard) as well, but it has been a nightmare on my powerbook running Snow Leopard. It won't let me log back in; keeps giving me error messages. In the end I had to start the machine in safe mode then restart it pressing command-s before using the troubleshooting instructions. neilmac's instructions above were a Godsend because even after uninstalling whenever the system would go to sleep I would be unable to get back into it. Instead of a login screen I would get a blank screen. Following neilmac's instructions allowed me to get back into my system. Thanks neilmac.
