Worried about your Mac security?
Rohos Logon is a good Mac authentication solution for those who use or don't use a password to access Mac.
USB Key security
Rohos Logon allows to use any USB flash drive with on-board serial number to be used as a security token. Rohos does not store any information on USB flash drive, thus allowing to use even non-Mac compatible USB sticks.
How it works
Rohos Logon remembers selected USB flash drive that user has chosen for protection. From that moment when USB drive get disconnected from Mac - Rohos immediately locks Mac desktop.
The first version allows to setup only 1 USB stick as a security token.
When you turn on USB key security Rohos disables the option "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver" because Rohos installs its own desktop lock window. Rohos lock screen has a button to Sleep your Mac after you pulled out USB flash drive.
Rohos Logon user interface allows you to quickly turn ON or OFF USB key protection.

Rohos Logon Key works in Mac OS X
Known issues:
1. USB flash drive removal may display "Improper Removal" message box.
Solution: this message box will automatically disappear within 2 minutes. Or use unformatted usb drive, or ipod. We are working on this issue.
2. During screensaver unlock Rohos may fault auto-entering password.
Solution: the cursor should be in the password area.
3. Preferences menu item is disabled and cannot be opened.
Solution: there are no prefs in the current release (v.1.2.1). Rohos only looks at the system preference 'require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver' (under security). If its NOT Checked - then Rohos will display its own lock screen that can be unlocked only by USB stick.
4. What if I lost my Key? how to login?
Solution: preliminary make a second USB Key. Find Rohos icon in the status area and choose Add USB Key command. |
