MiFare 1K contactless smart-card support

We announce a beta support of wireless smard-card MiFare 1K. This contactless smartcard technology (RFID) with over 1 billion smart card chips and 10 million reader modules sold. And now this RFID technology can be used with Rohos products for secure login into Windows, Mac or encrypted Rohos drive.

There are few different types of MiFare that Rohos can support but we have carried out tests with MIFARE Classic (Standard) 1K in smart card factor. There are also label like tags (like Touchatag).

Rohos Logon Key allows using MiFare for 2 factor authentication for Windows and Corporate Network.

How to try MiFare support:

  • Update Rohos Logon Key
  • Open Rohos Logon Key  main window, click on “Options”
  • Choose “MiFare 1K RFID” USB Key device
  • OK

Notes on MiFare support:

  • Rohos allows to customize the starting block number where to store rohos data.
  • Rohos allows to use customized default key A if you dont want to enter PIN each time within your office but need to protect RFID card outside your office.
  • Rohos uses 1 data block to store 10 byte vector. Using default Key A (”FF…”).
  • The following data blocks are used to store logon profiles (528 bytes max).
  • “Change PIN” command changes Key A to PIN value (6 bytes) of the trailer blocks of the selected block range.

By default, Rohos is able to use default Key A to read/write card without asking for a PIN code. If PIN code is changed then it will be asked each time Rohos accesses the card.

In order to change default keyA open Rohos Logon > Options > Options (under USB key device).

Licensing policy:

Rohos Logon Key require each RFID tag to have its own “token license key”.

  • ACS ACR122 NFC Contactless Smart Card Reader
  • SCM SCL010 RFID reader
  • Mifare 1K smart cards
  • Yubikey RFID OTP token
